KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's basketball incoming freshman Amani Johnson was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Athlete of the Year, it was announced this weekend, as her senior high school campaign continues to draw attention.
A key member of the Owls' 2018-19 freshman class, WBCA Honorable Mention All-American Johnson enters the college ranks as a highly coveted recruit in a multitude of sports – lettering in basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball for East Allegheny High School.

The North Versailles, Pa. native averaged 26.7 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and a pesky 3.9 steals per contest over the course of her standout senior campaign as she helped guide the team to the state semifinals. A two-time WBCA/MaxPreps Region 2 Player of the Week her final year, she was also named a Pennsylvania Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year finalist after leading East Allegheny to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons.
Following a high school career where she amassed 2,345 points, 553 assists, 496 rebounds and 353 steals, Johnson finished as the school's all-time and single-season leader in goals scored.
A three-year captain of the women's basketball team, a four-year captain of the soccer team and a two-time all-Section selection for softball, Johnson's multi-faceted skillset was perhaps no better illustrated than when she graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average, earning salutatorian honors in her class.
