KENNESAW, Ga. – For the 11
th straight year, Kennesaw State baseball has had at least one player drafted in the MLB Draft.
Senior RHP
AJ Moore was drafted in the 10
th round by the Cincinnati Reds followed by senior 2B
Grant Williams getting drafted by the Red Sox 21 picks later also in the 10
th round.
Moore finished his senior season with a 5-3 record and a 3.24 ERA. For his career, he set Kennesaw State division I records in career starts and innings pitched. He tied KSU's record for most wins in his career with 17.
"I'm happy for AJ and his success," head coach
Mike Sansing said. "He's a guy that has worked diligently on the field and in the weight room the past four years. I'm happy for those efforts to pay off for him. Having three pitches will definitely allow him to get in the mix with the Reds pretty quickly as a starter. Congrats to him and his family!"
Williams hit .304 at the plate and led the team with an on base percentage of .397 his senior season. He was the only Owl to play in all 55 games this season. Williams has not only had success in an Owls uniform being named ASUN First Team All-Conference and ASUN Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, but he also made the 2017 Cape Cod League All-Star team.
"The KSU family is very excited for Grant and his family," Sansing said. "He has put in a tremendous amount of work over the past few years, and that's led him to having a great amount of success here as well as the Cape Cod league. It's been fun to be able to watch him as he's developed as a player and a person over the past four years. I couldn't be more happy for him."
Moore and Williams became the ninth and 10
th players selected from Kennesaw State in rounds 6-10 since 1989.
There is one more day of the MLB draft beginning at noon on Wednesday, June 6 as rounds 11-40 will wrap up the 2018 MLB Draft.
