TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The No.45 Kennesaw State women's golf team opened action at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Monday at the par-72 Don Veller Seminole Golf Course.

The Owls posted an 8-over par 296 in the opening round. The score of 296 is the lowest score shot by an Owls team in an NCAA Regional. No. 15 Washington leads the 18-team field at 15-under 273.

"I am really proud of how the team handled themselves today," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We shot one under on our final nine holes to place ourselves true to our seeding. We also shot our scoring average, which honestly is some great goals in postseason competition. I am particularly proud of Henriette playing her final four holes at 3-under par. Our goal this week is to play our own game as we cannot control the play of anyone else in the field. We had a great time on the course today and I am looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow morning."

Senior Henriette Nielsen led the way for the Owls in the opening round. She birdied three of her final four holes to card a 1-over par 73. The 73 is tied for the third best round by an Owl in an NCAA Regional. The 73 was also Nielsen's career-low round in an NCAA Regional. She is tied for 33rd overall.

Juniors Madison Caldwell and Clara Aveling  both posted rounds of 2-over 74 and are tied for 42nd. Caldwell played her final nine holes at 1-under par while Aveling rolled in 10 pars.

Roanne Tomlinson is tied for 53rd after a 3-over par 75. The junior made 15 pars in the opening round which tied for third most in the field.

Charlotte Charrayre fired a 9-over par 81 and sits in a tie for 93rdth.

Round two of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional will take place on Tuesday, May 8 at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course. The Owls will tee off the 10th hole at 9:00 a.m. and will be paired with Denver and College of Charleston.
