STOCKTON, Calif. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team concluded its 2017-18 season with a 12th place finish at the NCAA Stockton Regional that concluded Wednesday at The Preserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
The Owls turned in a closing-round 7-over par 295 total to finish the 54-hole event at 13-over par 877. Sophomore
Connor Coffee carded an even-par 72 to conclude play at 1-over par 217 and tie for 37th.
"This was a bit of a roller coaster year compared to last season, but I am extremely proud of our efforts this week," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "The scores here are not accurate reflections of our talent or will. These guys fought hard until the end and we can all walk away with our heads high."
Kansas concluded play atop the 13-team field, posting a 20-under par 844 to edge Stanford (845, -19) by a shot. Iowa State (847, -17), Alabama (849, -15) and Oregon (852, -12) rounded out the top five and advance to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
Junior
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres shot a final-round 1-over par 73 and finished tied for 45th at 3-over par 219.
Wyatt Larkin (222, +6) tied for 56th, while
Brady Keran (223, +7) and
Jake Fendt (225, +9) tied for 61st and 65th, respectively.
"This same squad will be back next year and we can chalk this up to an experience that will make us stronger as a team," Odom said. "We had a blast this week and will bring a hunger into next season with our sights set on a return trip to regionals and compete for an opportunity to advance to nationals."
The Stockton Regional capped a 2017-18 season in which Kennesaw State recorded eight top five finishes, and three runner-up showings (Pinetree Intercollegiate, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, Southern Intercollegiate Championships).
"NCAA postseason play is always an honor and reward for our year-long efforts," Odom said.
