Second Round Tee Times
STOCKTON, Calif. – Playing in consistent winds throughout the day, the Kennesaw State men's golf team shot an opening-round 4-over par 292 and is currently in ninth place at the NCAA Stockton Regional that opened Monday at The Preserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
The Owls are currently 14 shots behind Iowa State, which leads the 13-team field with a 10-under par total of 278, three shots ahead of second-place Kansas (281, -7). Alabama (282, -6), TCU (283, -5) and Stanford (285, -3) round out the top five.
"From the moment we teed off until the moment we finished, the wind was been blowing 15 to 20 miles an hour, and those were conditions all the teams had to deal with today," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "I think overall we had a pretty good day, we didn't hurt ourselves and made a nice little run on the back nine. I am very pleased and we are in pretty good position for the next couple of days."
Sophomore
Connor Coffee led the Owls with a 1-under par 71 and is tied for 19th, four shots behind a trio of players that includes Stanford's Brandon Wu, Daniel Sutton (Kansas) and UC Davis' Ryan Han, who is playing as an individual. All three players shot 5-under par 67.
After making the turn at 1-over par, Coffee posted a 2-under par 34 on his closing nine that included an eagle on the par-5, 543-yard 11th hole.
Junior
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres signed a scorecard of even-par 72 and is tied for 27th, while
Wyatt Larkin (74, +2) is tied for 44th.
Brady Keran and
Jake Fendt posted scores of 3-over par 75 and are tied for 52nd.
Torres led the Owls with six birdies, including a string of three straight in his opening nine holes.
After recording a 4-over par 40 on his front nine, Fendt posted a 1-under 35 on his back nine that included three straight birdies to conclude his round.
"The next couple days, the forecast is pretty similar to today. It's still going to be breezy with the course playing pretty much the same as and that suits us well," Odom said. "If we can get everyone contributing like they did today, that will be good for us the next couple of days."
The regional continues on Tuesday with play beginning at 10:30 a.m. (ET). The Owls will be grouped with Colorado and UC Irvine, and will tee off at 11:25 a.m. (ET).
