KENNESAW, Ga. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced
Jocselyn Powell and
Daniel McKune, two members of the Kennesaw State Track and Field Team, as 2018 All-American Athlete of the Year recipients.
The award is given to student-athletes recognized for athletic accomplishments and both of their dedication to strength and conditioning throughout the year. The two's determination to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence also deemed impressive for the 2017-18
Powell, a senior from Canal Winchester, Ohio, has competed in three four outdoor meets this spring and leads the ASUN 100m hurdles (13.15) and the 400m hurdles (57.28). She ranks fifth in the 400m hurdles and 23
rd in the 100m hurdles. The senior took home a gold medal in the 60m hurdles at the ASUN Indoor Championships.
"Jocselyn has been one of the most consistent, dedicated and coachable student-athletes throughout her career at Kennesaw State University," said
Jeremy Gough, Director of Sport Performance. "Despite her quiet demeanor, Jocselyn's strength, skill, and unwavering attitude roars her character. Any that see Jocselyn on the track or in the weight room know that she is a competitor and strives for success."
McKune, a Hickory Flat, Ga., native, has competed in four meets this outdoor season and ranks second in the ASUN in the hammer throw this season after a toss of 52.80m (173'3) at the Emory Classic. The senior is fifth in the ASUN in the shot put with a throw of 13.90m (45'7.25) this season. He won collected a silver and a bronze medal at the ASUN Championships.
"Daniel has a relentless determination to be a great student of his sport with regards to training both inside and outside the weight room," assistant sport performance coach
Tim Dombrowski said. "Over the past four years, I have had the honor to watch Daniel grow into an incredible leader, teammate, and an even better person. Daniel is one student athlete that works hard in every aspect of training, day in and day out."
The Owls will close out the regular season on Friday (Apr.27) at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville, Florida.
