ASUN Men's Release | ASUN Women's Release

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's De'Von Johnson and Aliyah Whisby collected the ASUN Women's and Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors while Tyler Jones was named ASUN Men's Field Athlete of the week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Johnson competed in long jump and triple jump at the Virginia Challenge. She won the triple jump with a leap of 12.70m w (3.9) (41' 8"). That jump leads the ASUN this season and ranks 24th in the NCAA East Region this season. She took home second in the long jump with a leap of 6.31m (0.4) (20' 8.5"). This is her second career ASUN Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor.

"De'Von has been on fire lately, not only with big PR's and school records, but she's consistently hitting those new levels," director of track and field and cross country Andy Eggerth said. "After battling back from a bad injury, I'm really happy for De'Von to experience such success and with her consistency it looks as though she'll advance through the NCAA prelims to the finals out in Oregon."

Whisby finished fifth among collegiate athletes in the heptathlon in her group at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She scored a career-best 5590 points. That point total ranks first in the ASUN and ranks near the top 15 nationally. The redshirt-freshman had career-best times in the 100h (14.22), 200m (24.58), and 800m (2:21.57). All of those times rank in the top 10 in the ASUN this season. She was named Co-Field Athlete of the Week with Lipscomb's Courtney Brenner. This is her first career ASUN Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Award.

"Aliyah is wildly talented and finally starting to come around to what we knew she was capable of," Eggerth said. "There's still a ton more that she'll develop, but it was really good to see her rise to occasion and achieve so many event PR's to get the heptathlon score necessary to advance directly to the NCAA finals."

Jones finished second in the long jump with a career-best leap of 7.51m (0.9) (24' 7.75") at the Virginia Challenge. That jump ranks No.2 in the ASUN, is tied for 36th in the NCAA East Region and should qualify him for NCAA Championships. The freshman finished fourth in the triple jump with a career-best jump of 14.71m (1.0) (48' 3.25"). That jump ranks third in the ASUN this season. This is Jones first career ASUN Filed Athlete of the Week Award.

" We've been trying to adjust Tyler's running mechanics this year so it's taking some time for him to adapt," Eggerth said. "I know it was a relief and a joy for him to finally PR in the long and triple jumps with some very strong performances at the Virginia Challenge. "

The Owls will compete on Friday (Apr.27) at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville, Fla to close out the regular season.
