BRAZELTON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team finished fourth at the ASUN Conference Championships that concluded Tuesday at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton, Ga.
The Owls, who carded a 12-over par 292 second round, had their two-year reign as conference champions ended by North Florida, which captured the abbreviated 36-hole event with a 4-under par 564 total to record a five-shot victory over second-place Lipscomb (569, +1). Jacksonville (586, +18) finished third, while Kennesaw State concluded play with a 20-over par 588 total.
The tournament was reduced to 36 holes after rain cancelled Monday's second round and wet conditions limited play to 18 holes on Tuesday. After playing as a par-72 on Sunday, the course was reduced to a par-70 as the 10th hole was shortened from a par 5 to a par 3.
"This was a humbling event for us. We came in prepared and confident, but we just couldn't execute the shots we needed," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "However, our season continues with NCAA Regionals and we will evaluate this event and learn from it."
Sophomore
Connor Coffee was KSU's top finisher, posting a final-round 3-over par 73 to place 10th with a 3-over par 145 total, 10 shots behind Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong, who turned in a 7-under par 135 score to capture his second straight ASUN Conference individual medalist title.
Junior
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres signed a 2-under par 68 scorecard to place 13th at 5-over par 147. Junior
Wyatt Larkin and freshman
Brady Keran tied for 19th, at 8-over par 150, while junior
Jake Fendt (152, +10) tied for 25th.
