BRASELTON, Ga.- The No.44 Kennesaw State Women's golf team sits in second after a wet and rainy opening round of the ASUN Women's Golf Championship at the Par-73 Chateau Elan Legends Club on Sunday.
The Owls recorded a 21-over 313 in the opening round. North Florida leads the seven-team field at 15-over par 307.
"Overall a very disappointing and frustrating day for the team," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "I honestly think we tried too hard early on and dug such a big hole we had to spend the rest of the round just trying to grind it out to stay within a catchable amount of shots for the remaining two rounds. With that said, I am proud of the way we kept at it and we are only six shots back with two rounds remaining."
Juniors
Madison Caldwell and
Charlotte Charrayre led the Owls in the opening round as both posted rounds of 3-over 76 and are tied for fourth. Charrayre played her final nine holes at 1-under par while Caldwell rolled in 13 pars.
Clara Aveling is tied for ninth after a 5-over par 78. The junior rebounded from a tough first nine holes to shoot 1-over par 38 on her final nine holes.
Senior
Henriette Nielsen is tied for 20
th after a 10-over par 83 in the opening round.
Medy Thavong fired an 11-over par 84 and sits in a tie for 24
th.
