BRASELTON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team carded an 8-over par 296 and is in third place after the first round of the ASUN Conference Championships that opened Sunday at the par-72, 7,032-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton, Ga.
Sophomore
Connor Coffee signed an opening-round scorecard of even-par 72 to lead the Owls, who are 11 shots behind North Florida. The Ospreys lead the seven-team field with a 3-under total of 285 and are one shot in front of Lipscomb (286, -2).
"We didn't get the low round from anyone today that usually propels the team score," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We held together on the back nine and continue to have a positive outlook for the remainder of the tournament.
"With tough conditions forecast for the last two rounds, I expect the top of the leaderboard to tighten," Odom added. "If we get all five players involved in daily scoring, we still have a chance down the stretch."
Coffee is currently tied for sixth, while freshman
Brady Keran, who opened with a 1-over par 73 is tied for ninth. Juniors
Jake Fendt (75, +3),
Wyatt Larkin (76, +4) and
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (79, +7) are tied for 12th, 16th and 27th, respectively.
Lipscomb's Eric Ansett turned in a 4-under par 68 and has a one-shot lead over a trio of players who carded 3-under par 69s.
With heavy rain expected overnight and into the early morning, the second round will not start before noon. For the most up-to-date information visit
