SPARTANBURG, S.C. -The Kennesaw State women's tennis team edged past South Carolina State, 4-3, to collect its second straight ASUN Conference win on Saturday.
 
The win clinched the Owls a spot in the ASUN Tournament, which takes place April 20-22 in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
"Finishing the regular season with another win is big time from this team," said Assistant Head Coach Miranda Foley. "It puts us in a good place leading into the conference tournament. Another doubles point, another win has served us well these last few matches but honestly, this team can beat any team we may see in the next week regardless of winning the doubles point or not. I'm truly proud of every member of this team and am glad we gave ourselves the chance to extend our season."
 
The Owls won the doubles for the second straight match. Jessica Cantrell and Jada Tijani defeated Morgan Dodd and Elin Hellberg 6-2 at No.3 doubles. Alexandra Mercado and Aspen Jarrett clinched the point beating Noelia Acuna and Taylor Dodd 6-4 at No.2 doubles.
  
In singles, Laura Hopton was the first to finish as she rolled to a 6-4, 6-3 win over Vale Zarama at No. 3.  Jessica Cantrell (KSU) got past Taylor Dodd  7-6 (4-0), 6-4. The Owls clinched the victory when Alexandra Mercado took down Carol Sigaki 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
 
"Alexandra was clutch today for us in both doubles and singles," Foley said. "To go 4-0 to finish her regular season campaign as a senior speaks for itself."
 
The Owls are back in action Friday (April 20) when they begin play in the ASUN Women's Tennis Tournament in Jacksonville, Florida at the UNF Tennis Complex.
