Tournament Preview
The No.45 Kennesaw State women's golf team wraps up its regular season on Friday-Saturday (Apr.12-13) at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens Georgia at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The 12-team field is one of the strongest in the country featuring three teams ranked in top-five in the country.
The tournament is named in honor of Liz Murphey, a former golf coach and senior woman administrator at Georgia. Murphey was the first National Golf Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 1984, was a charter member of the NGCA's Hall of Fame, won the NGCA's Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award in 1996 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators in 2003.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes, with 36 holes contested on Friday, and 18 holes on Saturday. The first two rounds will be played with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. In the final round, teams will tee off in waves.
Kennesaw State was ranked No.45 by Golfstat and No. 46 by Golfweek in this week's rankings.
Under the leadership of 11th-year head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead, the Owls have their eyes set on a second ASUN Conference Championship and NCAA Regional appearance in the last four seasons, while also looking to make history as the first KSU women's golf team to advance to the NCAA Championship.

Owls Lock up Third Place Finish at The Brickyard Collegiate
The No.42 Kennesaw State women's golf team locked up third place after the final round of the Brickyard Collegiate at the Brickyard Golf Course on Tuesday. The team carded a 12-over par 300 in the third round for a three-round total of 30-over par 894. No.20 Vanderbilt won the event at 5-over par 869. The third-place finish was the Owls eighth in the top five in nine events this season. It also marked KSU's best finish in two appearances at the Brickyard Collegiate.

Caldwell Tabbed ASUN Player of the Week
Junior
Madison Caldwell has been named the ASUN Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday (April12).Caldwell had a strong performance during the Brickyard Collegiate as she finished sixth. The Dawsonville, Ga. native posted rounds of 72-72-76 for a 54-hole total of 4-over par 220. She tied the fourth most pars in the field with 38 for the tournament. Her finish was her best of the spring and second best of the season. She was the Owls top finisher for the fourth time this season. Her rounds of 72 in the first two rounds were eighth and ninth at par or better this season. Caldwell is ranked 100th by Golfstat in this week's rankings.
A Strong Fall Season
The Kennesaw State women's golf team is coming off arguably the strongest fall in program history. During the fall, the Owls had four top four finishes in four events, their first win since 2015, were the highest ranked team in the ASUN and had a 294.45 scoring average. Individually,
Madison Caldwell took third at the Lady Paladin Invitational. Her 7-under par 209 is the lowest 54-hole score on a par-72 course in program history. Her final round 67 tied for the fourth-lowest round in program history on a par-72 course. Junior
Roanne Tomlinson posted a third-place finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational. Her 3-under par 213 total was fourth-lowest 54-hole score on a par-72 course.
Henriette Nielsen grabbed second, while
Madison Caldwell took third at the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate. Nielsen's second place finish was her career-best finish as an Owl. Four individuals recorded top 20 finishes, including two with top three showings. Two players recorded at least one round in the 60s, and three players with rounds of even par or better.
Owls Win Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational
The Kennesaw State women's golf team tied for first place at the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 29) at the par-72, 6,210-yard Highlands Golf Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The final round of the tournament was cancelled due to high winds and unfavorable conditions. KSU grabbed a tie for the win with Louisville at 20-over par 596 through two rounds. The Owls beat No.15 Illinois and No.41 East Carolina and five teams from Power 5 conferences. KSU finished the fall not having finished worse than fourth in four tournaments.
Sverdloff and Thavong Earn Academic Honors
Dulcie Sverdloff and
Medy Thavong were named to the 2016-17 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. Sverdloff was named to the WGCA All-American Scholar team for the fourth year in a row while graduating in May with a degree in sports management with a 3.77 GPA. Thavong, a Prachinburi, Thailand native carries a 4.0 GPA in Accounting. This is her second consecutive appearance on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.
Caldwell Advances to Round of 64 at US Women's Amateur

Madison Caldwell advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at the at the 6,423-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club on Tuesday.
Needing to place in the top 64 to advance, Caldwell posted rounds of 75-71 for a 2-over par total of 146 to finish tied for 23rd. The rising junior made nine pars and three birdies in her opening round o on Monday. She carded five birdies and 10 pars during her second round. She became the second player in program history to reach the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur joining
Ket Preamchuen who did it in 2011.
Tomlinson Wins Florida FSGA Amateur Championship
Incoming Kennesaw State women's golfer
Roanne Tomlinson won the FSGA Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship on Sunday (July 9). Tomlinson shot rounds of 74-74-73 for a 5-over par total of 221 to win the event by one shot at the Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. Tomlinson made 35 pars and eight birdies in the three-day event. Tomlinson secured the title in the final round collecting 16 pars and a birdie to card a 1-over par 73.

Rhyll Brinsmead enters her 11th season at the helm of the Kennesaw State women's golf program. In her time as an Owl, she has led KSU to a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference titles and NCAA Regional Championship appearances, coming in 2011-2012 and 2014-15. A talented golfer in her own right, Brinsmead played collegiately at Texas State and graduated in 2004.
