KENNESAW, Ga. – Laura Hopton carried the Kennesaw State women's tennis team in a 6-1 loss to Ball State on Tuesday evening. This match concluded the non-conference portion of the Owls schedule.

"We competed much better today than we did on Sunday," Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon said. "I think we took a step in the right direction. We will use the next two weeks to get ready for ASUN play. I like what I saw today. We just have to make sure that we do the right thing on a daily basis. If we continue to do that, we will be ok. I know that we are better than our record shows we are and the team is starting to realize that."

Hopton picked up a straight sets win over Lilya Hadab, 6-2, 6-1. The Owls (1-10) got a strong effort in doubles from Alex Mercado and Jessica Cantrell who fell 7-6 (7-4) in a tiebreaker. Mercado battled back from a set down in singles to win the second set before falling in the third set.

Kennesaw State will return to action on Saturday (Mar.24) vs Lipscomb as the Owls will open ASUN conference play. First serve is set for 4 p.m. on the Betty Siegel Courts. Admission is free.
