THE STORYLINE:
· Kennesaw State's arms allowed just three hits on the evening, but could not overcome a two-run first frame from host Jacksonville State, dropping a 3-1 decision at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
· The Owls (6-8) out-hit the Gamecocks (9-3), 6-3, on the night but left seven runners on base and could not figure out five JSU pitchers used in the ballgame.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· LHP Ryan Kennedy worked 5.2 hard-fought innings, allowing three runs on just three hits. The lefty struck out a season-best five strikeouts and issued four walks in his third start of the season.
· Jacksonville State plated a crooked two in the bottom of the first frame, taking advantage of two walks, a wild pitch and a hit to take a 2-0 lead.
· Kennesaw State's junior 3B Jaylen Smith knocked his team-leading third home run of the season in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 2-1.
· The Gamecocks added another run to their lead in the bottom of the sixth, giving the host a 3-1 advantage over the final three frames in a tilt they never trailed.
· RHP Luke Torbert, who made his fifth appearance of the season, and Max Ryan, who made his team-leading seventh appearance of the year, worked perfect outings out of the bullpen.
· Torbert tossed 1.2 scoreless frames and Ryan worked 0.2 perfect outs, as the two did not allow a hit and struck out four on the night.
· Offensively, Smith (1-for-3, RBI, HR), LaDonis Bryant (2-for-4), Grant Williams (1-for-3), Daniel Seres (1-for-3) and Terence Norman (1-for-3) combined for all six hits on the night.
