KENNESAW, GA. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team is in a tie for fourth place after the opening 36 holes of the Henssler Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club.
The Owls posted a 14-over par 302 and a 5-over par 293 for 19-over par score of 595 after the opening two rounds. KSU is tied with Coastal Carolina for fourth and is just seven shots behind No.19 Kent State who leads the field headed into Tuesday's final round.
"This was a total grind today, and I'm so proud of the afternoon round we put together," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. " Our morning round was lazy and we lost some really silly shots on the back nine. We dug a hole but really fought hard and came back in the afternoon. The 293 we shot was one of the best rounds we have had this spring. I'm excited to be in contention again and look forward to battling it out for a team title again tomorrow."
Redshirt-sophomore
Clara Aveling rolled in 11 pars and two birdies to shoot a 3-over 75 in the first round. In her second round, she added 15 pars and a birdie to post a 1-over par 73. Her 26 pars are tied for eighth most in the field. She is tied for ninth at 4-over par 148.
Junior
Madison Caldwell matched Aveling with 11 pars and two birdies in her opening round that led to a 3-over par 75. She made par on seven of her final nine holes to secure a two-over par 74 in the second round. She is tied for 13
th at 5-over par 149.
After an opening round 77, junior
Medy Thavong opened her second round with six straight pars and closed it with three more pars to secure a 3-over par 75. Thavong is tied for 21
st at 8-over par 152.
Junior
Roanne Tomlinson fired the Owls low round of the day in the second round. She rolled in four birdies and 11 pars to post a 1-under par 71 in the second round. She sits tied for 27
th at 9-over par 153.
Junior
Charlotte Charrayre carded 17 pars in her opening round on the way to 3-over par 75. She leads the field with 31 pars through two rounds. She is tied for 34
th at 11-over par 155.
Playing as an individual, senior
Henriette Nielsen is tied for 17
th after rounds of 75-75 for a 6-over par total of 150. She rolled in 28 pars over her first 36 holes.
Freshman
Kwan Wongsinth, who is also playing as an individual, is tied for 56
th with a 21-over par total of 165.
