Final Results
PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico. – The No.48 Kennesaw State women's golf team grabbed a second-place finish after the final round of the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational at the par-72, 6,085-yard El Tigre Golf and Country Club.
KSU recorded a 7-over par 295 in the final round for a 28-over par total 892 for the tournament. The Owls collected key wins over No.14 Washington, No.30 Wisconsin and No.46 San Diego State. KSU was the only team in the field to have its best round of the tournament in the final round. No.16 Arizona won the 12-team event at 11-over par 875.
"We met last night and talked about trusting the process and believing in what we have been working on," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We have practiced diligently, and the team executed so well today in really tough and windy conditions. This result is so satisfying because the team went out and earned a second-place finish in a strong field. I am so happy for them and Kennesaw State. This is a huge result for this team and so well earned."
Roanne Tomlinson finished eighth with a 4-over par total of 220. Tomlinson fired an even-par round of 72 in the final round with 13 pars and three birdies. This was her team-leading eighth round at par or better this season. Her 38 pars in the tournament were fourth most of any player in the field.
Madison Caldwell carded a 2-over par 74 in the final round with eight pars and four birdies. The junior closed the tournament in a tie for 11
th at 6-over par 222.
Juniors
Clara Aveling and
Charlotte Charrayre finished in a tie for 20
th at 9-over par 225. Aveling recorded her lowest round of the tournament with a 2-over par 74 in the final round. She rolled in 12 pars, a birdie and an eagle. Charrayre posted her third-consecutive round of 3-over par 75. She collected nine pars and three birdies in route to her best finish this season.
Senior
Henriette Nielsen tied for 50
th at 17-over par 233.
Playing as an individual, junior
Medy Thavong tied for second at even-par 216. She made 12 pars and three birdies over the final 18 holes to shoot 72. That finish was her best this season and her sixth top 10 finish of her career.
Also playing as an individual,
Kwan Wongsinth tied for 27
th at 10-over par 226.
"We had contributions from each player in the team result, and a really strong individual finish from Medy," Brinsmead said. "This is exactly what we needed mid-way through the spring championship season."
The Owls will host the Henssler Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, March 26-27 at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.
