PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico. – The No.48 Kennesaw State women's golf team is in seventh place after 36 holes of the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational at the par-72, 6,085-yard El Tigre Golf and Country Club.
The Owls posted an 11-over par 299 in the opening round and 10-over par 298 in the second round for a 21-over par total 597, 27 shots behind No.16 Arizona, which leads the 12-team field.
"We had contributions from each player in the lineup today, which is a positive but we again need to push harder to save wasted shots," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "This team is capable of shooting under par each time we tee it up we just need more self-belief. We've got 18 holes tomorrow to leave it all on the course and focus on what we can control."
Juniors
Madison Caldwell and
Roanne Tomlinson are both tied for 19
th at 7-over 151 to lead the Owls. Caldwell collected 10 pars and birdies on the way to a 5-over 77 in her opening round. She made 13 pars, 2 birdies and an eagle in route to a 1-under 71 in the second round. Tomlinson fired an even-par 72 in the first round with 12 pars and 3 birdies. She posted a 4-over 76 in the second round with 13 pars. Tomlinson's 25 pars are tied for ninth in the field this week.
Charlotte Charrayre carded a pair of 3-over par 75s and is tied for 29
th at 6-over par 150. The junior collected 22 pars and 4 birdies in her first 36 holes.
Junior
Clara Aveling is tied for 32
nd at 7 over par 151. Aveling had 13 pars on the way to a 3-over par 75 in the opening round. She shot 4-over par 76 with 10 pars in the second round.
Senior
Henriette Nielsen is tied for 48th after rounds of 79-76 for a 11-over par total of 155.
Playing as an individual, junior
Medy Thavong is tied for eighth at even-par 144. She rolled in 22 pars and 7 birdies during the first 36 holes. Also playing as an individual,
Kwan Wongsinth is tied for 16 with rounds of 73-74 for a 3-over par total of 147. Wongsinth's 26 pars in the opening two rounds are tied for eighth most in the field
