ATHENS, Ga. – Receiving solid contributions throughout its lineup, the Kennesaw State men's golf team tied for second place at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of Georgia at the par-72, 6,917-yard Athens Country Club.
The Owls posted rounds of 291-293 to post an 8-under par 584 to tie Georgia and finish 17 shots behind No. 18 Arkansas, which captured Monday's 36-hole, one-day event with a 9-under par 567 total.
"I am really proud of the effort today as we played in some very difficult conditions," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "The wind was very strong all day and the greens at Athens Country Club are some of the fastest we see all year."
Junior
Wyatt Larkin led Kennesaw State, carding rounds of 73-70 for a 1-under par 143 to tie for fourth, two shots behind Arkansas teammates Alvaro Ortiz and Luis Garza, who shared individual medalist honors at 3-under par 141.
Junior
Jake Fendt and sophomore
Connor Coffee tied for 13th after recording scores of 2-over par 146. Junior
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (150, +6) and freshman
Brady Keran (152, +8) tied for 24th and 36th, respectively.
"This a unique event where we play in a fivesome as a team and the scores still count the same as any other event, and seeing your team play together is a lot of fun" Odom said. "After third and tie for second, we are trending in the right direction heading into our two strongest regular-season events of the spring."
The Owls are back in action on Sunday when the open play at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Golf Course at Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. Kennesaw State and Mercer serve as co-hosts.
