KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Department of Athletics recognized academic excellence during halftime of its men's basketball game versus North Florida Thursday at the KSU Convocation Center.
 
A total of 279 student-athletes representing KSU's 18 intercollegiate teams achieved Top Flight Owl status by earning a 3.0 grade-point average during spring or fall 2017. The overall GPA for Kennesaw State student-athletes this past fall was 3.06, with over 62 percent earning a 3.0 or higher.
 
Additionally, 38 student-athletes were Presidential Scholars (4.0 GPA), 81 made the Dean's List last fall, while 28 graduated in December.
 
"I am very happy that we were able to recognize our student-athletes at last night's men's basketball game," Randy Kennedy, assistant athletics director for student-athlete success services, said. "We often see what they do on the court or the field of play, but they also deserve recognition for their hard work in the classroom as well.
 
"I appreciate our coaches and athletic administrators and their emphasis on the importance of academic success, and also the faculty that work with us in many ways," Kennedy added. "I also want to recognize and congratulate the hard work of the SASS staff – Julia Henkel, Scott Gaffney, Thomas Strause, Pauline Glenn, Eileen Hatfield and Emmie Trull – for their support and backing of these student-athletes."
 
The men's golf team led all programs with a cumulative 3.62 GPA during the fall semester, while soccer had the most 4.0s (7), and volleyball had the highest percentage of 4.0s (31 percent). Additionally, both men's golf and women's tennis had 100 percent of their student-athletes record a 3.0 or higher GPA.
 
For the spring 2017 semester, men's tennis led all programs with 3.69 GPA and percentage of 4.0s (33 percent), while football had the highest number of 4.0s (5). Women's golf (7) and men's tennis (12) had each individual from their respective teams record at least a 3.0 GPA.
 
The following is a list of all the Top Flight Owls by sport. Those individuals in bold recorded a 4.0 and are Presidential Scholars.
