MACON, Ga
. –The Kennesaw State men's tennis team dropped a hard fought match 4-3 to Mercer at Leroy Peddy Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
"We had another tough battle today," Director of Tennis
Eduardo Rincon said. "Our guys played well and competed hard once again. I feel like eventually those 4-3 matches will start going our way. We have seen a lot in the last five days, from fast indoor courts to slow courts and 70-degree weather. I trust that these experiences will help us tremendously in our coming matches. There's no question we are a better team now than we were just a few days ago."
The Owls took early control of the match winning the doubles point.
Fermin Calvo Barcelo and Lucas De Tores Curth knocked off Sam Philp and Oliver Stuart, 6-2 at No.1 singles and
Drew Lahey and
Bryan Triana took down Stathis Tsiranidis and Carver Arant at No.3 singles, 6-4.
Senior
Corey Smith and sophomore
Drew Lahey picked up straight-set singles wins for KSU. Smith defeated Nicolas Guillon, 6-4, 6-2 at No.3 singles. Lahey picked up his third-straight win from the No.5 singles spot as he beat Stathis Tsiranidis 6-3, 6-3. The match came down to No.1 singles where Sam Philp was able to hold of
Fermin Calvo Barcelo in a second-set tiebreaker for a straight-sets win.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday (Feb.17) vs. Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m. on the Betty Siegel Courts on campus and admission is free.
