ASUN Release

KENNESAW, Ga. – Days after finishing runner-up at ASUN Indoor Championship over the weekend, the women's track and field team has received a duo of postseason awards the conference announced Friday. Aliyah Whisby was named Co-ASUN Most Outstanding Field Athlete and was named Most Outstanding Freshman Performer for her performance at the conference championships.

"Aliyah is one of the greatest talents to compete in the ASUN conference," director of track and field Andy Eggerth said. "She hasn't even scratched the surface of how good she can be.  Her success comes almost purely off talent because she has no fitness right now due to some injuries and whatnot.  I just hope that her hunger, focus, and commitment continue to grow because she is physically capable of being one of the best in the NCAA."

Whisby won both events she competed in at the ASUN Championships. She won the gold medal in the high jump with a career-best clearance of 1.70m (5'7). That jump tied for the best high jump in the ASUN this season.  It also tied for fourth-best in indoor program history. Whisby also won gold in the long jump with a career best leap of 6.01m (19' 8.75"). That jump was the second best in the ASUN this season, second best in indoor program history and tied for fourth best in ASUN Indoor Championship history.

The Owls open their outdoor season on March 16-17 at the two-day Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech.
