ASUN Release
KENNESAW, Ga. - The men's track and field team has collected a duo of postseason awards after winning their seventh straight ASUN Indoor Championship over the weekend the conference announced Friday. Director of Track and Field
Andy Eggerth was awarded ASUN Coach of the Year for the seventh consecutive year while
Chuck McConville was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete for his performance at the conference championship.
Eggerth led the men to their seventh consecutive ASUN Indoor Championship victory. His men's team scored 210 points in the two-day meet. Those 210 points were the most scored by any Division I men's indoor conference championship winning team so far in 2018.
" Coach of the Year really has little to do with me," Eggerth said. " Sure, I work my butt off, but it's the athletes that perform and win championships. They are the stars!"
McConville won both events he competed in at ASUN Championships scoring 20 points. He had a career-best throw of 16.01m (52'6.5") to win the shot put. That throw ranks first in the ASUN this season by almost a foot and a half. That shot put throw is the fifth furthest throw in indoor program history. That shot put was also the ninth-best throw in ASUN Indoor Championship history. He won the weight throw with a career-best toss of 17.50m (57'5"). That throw also was the best in the ASUN this season and is tenth best all-time in program history.
"Chuck had an outstanding competition and threw big at the right time," Eggerth said. "He has represented himself and our program very well, so I'm excited for another of our throwers to receive this recognition after Fabeon did outdoor last year."
The Owls open their outdoor season on March 16-17 at the two-day Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech.
