THE STORYLINE:Â
· The Kennesaw State baseball fell to SEC foe Georgia in a non-conference ballgame, 14-4, at Stillwell Stadium Wednesday night.
· The Owls'
Jake Franklin,
Jaylen Smith and
Griffin Helms drove in four runs and combined for five hits, but the Bulldogs scored 11 runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach.
· With the loss, the Owls dropped to 1-4 overall while Georgia improved to 3-1 on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· After Georgia scored a run in its first at-bats, the Owls responded with three, two-out RBI as Helms' single and Franklin's two-run homer gave KSU a 3-1 edge after one complete.
· A scoreless second send the game into the third where the Bulldogs deadlocked the game at 3-3 with two in the top half, before Smith's one-out RBI single gave KSU a 4-3 advantage after three frames.
· That would be the final lead Kennesaw State held on the even, as UGA plated 11 runs in the top half of the sixth to take a 14-4 advantage.
· RHP
Luke Torbert, a Marietta, Ga., native, came out of the bullpen and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and registered two strikeouts.
· RHP
Monty Horn, a freshman from Lawrenceville, Ga., tossed a scoreless ninth frame for his Owl debut, striking out the side.
