MOBILE, Ala. – Led by juniors
Wyatt Larkin and
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres, the No. 46-ranked Kennesaw State men's golf team carded a final-round 7-under par 281 to finish at 6-over par 870 and place fifth at the 16-team Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
Larkin and Torres both shot 3-under par 69s to help the Owls post the third-lowest score of the third round. Florida State, ranked No. 29, and host South Alabama both turned in 12-under par scores of 276 to close out the tournament. The Seminoles captured the event with a 30-under par total of 834 to finish 16 shots ahead of the Jaguars (850, -14).
Larkin, who recorded rounds of 71-72-69, tied for sixth with a 4-under par total of 212, while Torres placed 10th after posting scores of 75-70-69 for a 2-under 214 total. Florida State teammates Harry Ellis and Jamie Li tied for individual medalist honors at 11-under par 205 to finish one shot better than Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent (206, -10).
"Today was more indicative of our scoring potential and enabled us to move up the leaderboard behind the leadership of Wyatt and Pablo, who surged to top 10 finishes," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "Overall, we have some areas to improve going forward and this event gives us perspective of where to begin."
Freshman
Brady Keran finished with a 1-under 71 to tie for 27th at 4-over par 220, while juniors
Jake Fendt (224, +8) and
Adam Morris (235, +19) tied for 47th and 76th, respectively.
Competing in the 40-man USA Invitational Tournament at the par-71 Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course, sophomore
Connor Coffee, shot a final-round 1-over par 72 to tie for 11th with a 5-over 218 total. Seniors
Buster Bruton (229, +16) and
Paul Doig (234, +21) tied for 26th and placed 34th, respectively.
Kennesaw State returns to action on March 4 when it opens play at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn at Grand National Lakes in Opelika, Ala.
