CANCUN, Mexico –
Alexis Poole was impressive throughout the contest, totaling 21 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two assists, but the Kennesaw State women's basketball team (2-5) dropped its final contest of the Cancun Challenge to Michigan State, 75-51.
Michigan State's (4-1) offense started hot as it began by making its first four shots of the game, marking a 10-0 run to begin the contest. The Spartans extended their lead to 20-2, but the Owls ended the first quarter with an 11-2 run to cut the lead to 22-12 after 10 minutes.
Kennesaw State continued its run into the second quarter and pulled to within seven points (26-19) after a bucket by
Iceis Walker. Midway through the second frame, the Michigan State offense went on an 11-0 run to take a 37-19 advantage into halftime. The Owls' were perfect in the first half from the free throw line after knocking down all seven attempts.
Poole began the Kennesaw State scoring in the third quarter with a layup, but the Spartans hit back-to-back buckets to force the Owls into a timeout with the score 46-24 with 6:27 to play in the period. The basket gave her double-digits for the fifth time this season.
Michigan State continued to shoot lights-out and opened up a 68-35 advantage at the 6:53 mark in the fourth period.
