KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head men's golf coach
Bryant Odom announced the signing of Takafumi Shimoji to a National Letter-of-Intent during the early signing period, it was announced on Thursday (Nov. 15).
Shimoji ranks sixth in the 2019 Georgia class and 114th nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard.
"We are excited about signing Takafumi Shimoji, Odom said. "Taka is very focused in his golf and academics and we expect him to make a quick impact on our team on and off the golf course.
"Taka is a consistent player with the ability for low scores and possesses a variety of shots," Odom added. "I really believe he fits in perfectly with the vision of our team. Welcome to the Nest, Takafumi!"
Shimoji, a native of Okinawa, Japan, and current resident of Suwanee, Ga., attends Friendship Christian School in Suwanee. The lone KSU signee was named his team's Most Valuable in 2016 and 2017 and helped Friendship Christian School to the 2016 Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association (GICAA) state championship.
An experienced junior golfer, Shimoji, finished fourth at the American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) Ollie Schneiderjans Championship, seventh at the Southern Junior Championship and ninth at the Georgia Boys Junior Championships.
Kennesaw State is coming off a solid fall season that included three top five finishes, including a runner-up showing at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in October. The Owls open begin their spring season Feb. 11 at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama.
