Wake Forest Invitational Results
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team concluded its fall schedule competing in the Wake Forest Invitational and the Pelham Racquet Club Collegiate Invite hosted by Samford over the weekend.
At the Wake Forest Invitational,
Harvey Maughan and
Bryan Triana picked up wins in the B2 doubles division over Mercer (7-5), Wake Forest (6-2) and Harvard (6-0) to capture the doubles title. In singles action at Wake Forest,
Fermin Calvo Barcelo picked up the highest ranked win in program history taking down the No.23 player in the country Azwin Lizen of Virginia 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the round of 16 of his flight. He would pick up another win over Ryan Seggerman of Princeton 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday. Maughan captured a 6-2, 7-5 over Edu Villar of Wofford on Friday. Triana defeated Will Barker from Liberty 7-6, 6-4.
"Overall, we had another very good weekend at Wake Forest," director of tennis
Matt Emery said. "The highlights of the weekend were Fermin beating the #23 ranked singles player in the country from Virginia and Bryan and Harvey winning the doubles title."
At the Pelham Racquet Club Collegiate Invite hosted by Samford.
Jose Galvez and
Jack Sorel won their singles flights.
Sebastian Osorio and
Lucas de Torres Curth also collected wins in singles action on Sunday. Galvez/Sorel and Osorio /de Torres Curth grabbed wins in doubles action on Sunday to close out the tournament.
"Overall, this was a great tournament for our players," assistant coach
Kirsten Lewis said. "We took advantage of the opportunity to end the fall season on a high note, with Jose and Jack winning their singles flights. Lucas, Sebastian, Jose, and Jack all picked up several wins on the last day of the tournament, which shows that they are doing an excellent job competing and maintaining their intensity after three long days of competition. Looking forward to watching these guys do some great things in our dual season."
KSU is back on the court Feb.3, 2019 to open the spring season vs UCONN on the Betty Siegel Courts at Kennesaw State.
