LOXLEY, Ala. – Led by freshman Grant Sutliff, the Kennesaw State men's golf team turned in a solid opening day and is in second place at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational that opened Saturday at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Alabama.

KSU posted rounds of 286-286 for a 4-under par total of 572 and trails No. 7 Wake Forest, which holds a nine-shot advantage at 13-under par 563.  The two teams were tied following 18 holes before the Demon Deacons recorded an 11-under par 277 to finish the day leading the 12-team field.

"Today was solid overall. We played pretty steady through both rounds and everyone was in the mix," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Our goal is always to play in the final pairing the last day and that's where we are. We look to tighten up a few things and have a chance coming down the stretch."

Sutliff leads a group of three Kennesaw State players who are in the top 10 after carding rounds of 71-70 for a 3-under 141 total and is tied for third place, four shots behind Indiana's Brock Ochsenreiter, who leads the field at 7-under par 137. Eric Bae of Wake Forest is one shot back at 6-under par 138.

Senior Wyatt Larkin (69-74) and junior Connor Coffee (73-70) are tied for seventh at 1-under par 143. Seniors Jake Fendt (73-72 – 145, +1) and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (75-75 – 150, +6) are tied for 18th and 50th, respectively.

The final round is scheduled for 10:03 a.m. (ET) with the Owls grouped with Wake Forest and Indian and scheduled to tee off on the first hole. All the action can be followed live on the internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
