KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team shot a final round 2-over par 290 to finish at 2-under par 862 and place second at the Pinetree Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday at the par-72, 7,108-yard Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw.
Wisconsin carded a third-round 3-under par 285 to complete play at 7-under par 857 and post a five-shot victory over the Owls. Western Kentucky, which led after 54 holes, placed third with a 1-under par 863 total.
"We played a pretty solid tournament overall and we had a lead going into the back nine and a chance (of winning), but we just didn't carry that momentum through and capitalize on some of the easier holes," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We just got beat. Wisconsin played really well and it happens sometimes."
Senior
Wyatt Larkin turned in his best performance of the fall, carding rounds of 69-70-72 for a 5-under par 211 total to finish fourth and four shots behind Wisconsin's Jordan Hahn and Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent, who tied for first at 8-under par 208. Sargent made par on the first playoff hole to defeat Hahn and claim individual medalist honors.
"Wyatt played really steady golf," Odom said. "Up until the last few holes he had a chance for medalist and it is nice to see him getting back into contention."
