WEST POINT, Miss. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team is tied for first place after the opening 18 holes of the Magnolia Invitational on Sunday.
"Today was one of the grittiest rounds I've coached in my time at KSU," Kennesaw State head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Each player had to dig deep to grind out pars and some really great birdies coming home. This course is postseason worthy and I'm so proud of the way the team maintained their patience and waited for opportunities. We've positioned ourselves right where we want to be. Tomorrow is a new day with new goals."
KSU recorded an even-par total of 288 in its first round and is tied with tournament co-host Mississippi State for the team lead after the Owls played their final three holes in 2-under par. The Owls sit ahead of Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Auburn and Kansas State among others. KSU leads the field in birdies with 20.
Senior
Charlotte Charrayre paced the Owls with a 2-under par score of 70 with four birdies. Charrayre is in second overall.
"Charlotte was exceptional today," Brinsmead said. "She used her off week to really focus on what was holding her back and I'm so proud of her."
Senior
Clara Aveling posted an even-par round of 72 is in a tie for 12th place.
Seniors
Roanne Tomlinson and
Madison Caldwell fired rounds of 1-over par 73 and are tied for 20
th. Both combined to make 21 pars on Sunday.
Freshman
Chloe Thornton shot a 7-over 79 is tied for 60
th.
The Owls continue play at the Magnolia Invitational in the second round on Monday (Oct.14). KSU will tee off at 10:40 a.m. ET
