SEA ISLAND, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior
Jake Fendt continued his steady play, carding a 1-over par 73 on Saturday and remains in first place at the Jones Cup Invitational following 36 holes of play at the par-72, 7,321-yard Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.
Â
Fendt had a pair of birdies and three bogeys, including two on his back nine before recording pars on his final three holes, and concluded the day with a two-round total of 1-under par 143 and a one-shot advantage over Tanapat Pichaikool (Mississippi State).
Â
"The conditions were much easier today compared to Friday. I just made two mistakes on 14 and 15 with club selection," Fendt said. "Otherwise, I played very well, and as for tomorrow, I don't have any expectations other than to stay positive and try my best."
Â
The Jones Cup Invitational features one of the top amateur fields of the year and is played on a course that is widely regarded as one of the toughest tests in the amateur game. Five players are tied for third at 1-over par 145, including Theo Humphrey (Vanderbilt), who carded a 4-under 68 to tie for the low round of day.
Â
The Jones Cup Invitational has a rich history with a list of past winners that includes FedExCup champion Justin Thomas (2012), Patrick Reed (2010), two-time TOUR winner Kyle Stanley (2009) and PGA TOUR rookies Beau Hossler and Corey Connors.
Â
Fendt, who competed in the event in 2016, is one of six Kennesaw State players to compete in the Jones Cup Invitational, joining Matt Nagy (2011, 2012), Jeff Karlsson (2012),
Jimmy Beck (2013, 2014, 2015) and
Teremoana Beaucousin (2015).
Â
The final round gets underway at 8 a.m. (ET), with Fendt scheduled to tee off at 10 a.m. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at

Â
After a successful fall season that included a pair of runner-up finishes and a No. 46 Golfstat ranking, Kennesaw State will open its spring schedule at the Mobile Sports Authority Collegiate Invitational in Mobile, Ala. on Feb. 12.
