KENNESAW, Ga. – The 2018 ASUN Conference Baseball Preseason All-Conference team and awards were announced Wednesday (Jan. 24) afternoon, as seniors Taylor Allum and Grant Williams were selected to represent Kennesaw State.

Allum, a Grayson, Ga., native, was one of two unanimous selections while Williams, an Atlanta, Ga., native, was selected as a second baseman coming off a strong 2017 campaign which tabbed him Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

"I think it's a tremendous honor for both Taylor and Grant to be named to the preseason all-conference team," said head coach Mike Sansing. "It's an indication of their hard work both on and off the field and what it takes to be a great player. Both of them have done everything to earn this honor and we are excited to see them in action this season."

A 2017 First Team All-Conference selection, Allum is coming off a season in which he made 55 starts and dropped a career-high 15 home runs and 40 RBI. His 15 homers ranked second in the ASUN and tied KSU's single-season Division I record. In all, he posted career high numbers in games played (56), starts (55), at-bats (188), runs scored (41), hits (56), HR (15), RBI (46), and slugging percentage of .590.

Williams, a 2017 ASUN First Team honoree and Co-Defensive Player of the Year, posted career highs in batting average (.305), AB (223), hits (68), and RBI (29), primarily serving as a second baseman a season ago. He recorded the longest hitting streak of the season, reaching 17 straight games and led the team with 23 multi-hit games. The defensive player of the year committed just three errors with 91 putouts and 138 assists, compiling a .987 fielding percentage.

Kennesaw State, which begins practice on Friday (Jan. 26), opens its 2018 season Feb. 16 at Stillwell Stadium hosting UCONN as part of the Atlanta Classic, which also welcomes Minnesota and Bradley over the weekend.

The Owls play 10 straight games in The Nest to begin their season, before traveling to Oklahoma for a three-game series on the road March 16-18 for their first road series. KSU's ASUN opening weekend series is slated for March 29-31 at USC Upstate, and the first home conference series set for April 6-8 versus Stetson.

Kennesaw State was picked to finish fourth in the ASUN Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll, tallying 40 points. Stetson (63) was selected first, while FGCU (55) and Jacksonville (46) were all selected ahead of KSU. North Florida, Lipscomb, USC Upstate and NJIT round out the poll.
