BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team concluded its two-match trip to Birmingham, with a 7-0 setback at UAB on Sunday (Jan.21).
UAB (1-1) won two doubles matches and came out on top in each of the six singles contests.
Laura Hopton and
Jada Tijani picked up a 7-6 win in over Hana Sisirak and Alex Shchipakina in number two doubles.
Hopton battled tough in singles. After dropping the opening set 3-6, she fell 5-7 in the second set to Megan Bertrands at number four singles.
"We have to tip our hat to UAB," assistant head coach
Miranda Foley said. "Their singles play was the difference and proved to much for us today. Laura and Jada played a good doubles match. Getting the win even though the overall doubles point had already been decided gave the team some momentum moving into singles. Jess and Laura stuck in their respective singles matches until the last ball was struck which showed perseverance on their behalf but we need to see that from all out there."
The Owls (0-2) are next in action on Wednesday (Jan. 31) when it travels to Macon, Ga. to take on Georgia Southern beginning at 2 p.m. (ET)
