GREENVILLE, S.C. –
Junior Madison Caldwell's historic performance led the Kennesaw State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2017 Lady Paladin Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 24) at the par-72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course.

"This was a great start to season for the team," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. " The execution, focus and course management was everything we prepped for. I'm so proud of the team and very satisfied all our preparation paid off. We bested our goals and set records. We also had a great time on the course and the team chemistry was contagious. Madison set a new individual 54 hole scoring record, and I'm so proud of her. She dominated the par 5's this week and took advantage of her scoring opportunities. We've got a week to prep for Missouri, the momentum from this event will set the tone for the rest of the season."

Caldwell turned in the low KSU round of the day and season with a 5-under par 67 to finish third overall with a 7-under par 209 total. The 209 total is the lowest 54 hole total in school history on a par-72  course. The junior rolled in an eagle, four birdies and 12 pars during her final round. Her round of 67 is tied for fourth best in program history on a par-72 course.

The Owls posted a season-low round of 1-under par 287 in the final round to finish the tournament at 10-over par 874. The Owls collected wins over Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, and LSU among others in the 17-team field.

Junior Roanne Tomlinson posted her season-low round of 71 to finish tied for 12th at 3-over par 219. She collected 14 pars and two birdies during her final round.

After opening with a pair of 75s, Charlotte Charrayre played her last four holes in one-under par to card a 1-over par 73 and finish tied for 26th with a 223 total. Senior Henriette Nielsen recorded a 4-over par 76 to finish tied with Charrayre in a tie for 26th overall.

Freshman Kwan Wongsinth took home 83rd with a 27-over par total of 243 following a final round 5-over par 77.

Furman won the event with a final round 8-under par 280 to finish with a 7-under 857 for the tournament. Daytona State's Jiwon Jeon was the individual winner with a 11-under par two-round total of 205 after carding a 2-under par score of 70 on Saturday.

The Owls will return to action at the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by Missouri on Oct. 2-4 in Columbia, Mo.
