The Kennesaw State men's golf team returns to action on Monday when it opens play in the Shoal Creek Invitational Presented by Graeme McDowell, at Shoal Creek Country Club in Shoal Creek, Ala.

The 12-team event commences with 36 holes on Monday and concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,264-yard Shoal Creek Country Club. Play gets underway Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 9:30 a.m. (ET). Kennesaw State is grouped with Memphis and North Florida, and will begin on holes five through seven.

The Shoal Creek Invitational marks the second tournament of the fall for the Owls, who opened their 2017-18 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. Sept. 8-10.

The Field
The field for the Shoal Creek Invitational includes Chattanooga, Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Memphis Notre Dame, North Florida, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Troy and Wake Forest. Four of 12 teams competing this week – Wake Forest (11), Ole Miss (27), North Florida (38) and Kennesaw State (47) concluded the 2016-17 season ranked in Golfstat's Top 50.

Odom on the Shoal Creek Invitational
"This is a new event on our schedule and at a golf course with big tournament and major championship history," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "Qualifying was very competitive this week and scores were low. Our goal is to ride that momentum into the tournament and get ourselves into contention."
Kennesaw State at the Shoal Creek Invitational
The Owls are appearing in the Shoal Creek Invitational for the first time. The tournament marks the first of four trips Kennesaw State will make to the Yellowhammer State. The Owls will travel to Mobile, Ala. for the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 28-29; Steelwood Country Club) and Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate (Feb. 12-13; Magnolia Grove – Crossings Course), and Opelika, Ala. for the Tiger Invitational March 4-6 at Grand National Lakes.

Last Time Out
The Owls opened their 2017-18 season at the Carpet Capital Collegiate and placed 11th in the 15-team field that included 10 teams who finished the 2016-17 season ranked on Golfstat's Top 50. Kennesaw State concluded 54 holes with a 10-over par 874 total to place 24 shots behind Alabama and Georgia Tech, who tied for first with 14-under par scores of 850. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Crimson Tide in a playoff to capture the team title. Sophomore

Kennesaw State Men's Golf
The Kennesaw State men's golf program has established itself at the national level in recent years as it has made seven consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and advanced to the NCAA Championships on three occasions, including last season. The Owls finished the 2016-17 season ranked No. 47 by Golfstat and No. 37 byÂ

Summer Highlights
Redshirt junior
Wyatt Larkin made a successful return to competitive play after missing nine months due to a back injury. In his first competitive action, Larkin captured individual medalist honors at the Yamaha Atlanta Open after shooting rounds 68-71 for a 5-under par 139 score and record a two-shot victory. He also tied for low amateur at the Georgia Open, tying for fifth, and tied 17th at Porter Cup at Nigara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y.

Sophomore
Connor Coffee continued the momentum from a strong freshman campaign by finishing second at the Georgia Amateur Championship at West Lake Country Club in Augusta. Posting four rounds in the 60s, Coffee shot rounds of 69-69-65-66 for a 5-under 269 and finished one shot out of first.

2016-17 Season in Review
Kennesaw State had a solid 2016-17 campaign, posting 12 top 10 finishes and 10 top five showings, including three tournament wins. KSU captured the Pinetree Intercollegiate, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational and ASUN Conference Championships.

Individually, sophomore
Jake Fendt led the Owls with a 72.32 scoring average, had six top 20 finishes, four top 10 showings, and claimed individual medalist honors at the Southern Intercollegiate.

Connor Coffee earned ASUN Conference Co-Freshman of the Year honors, while seniors
Teremoana Beaucousin and
Christopher Guglielmo. and sophomore
Jake Fendt were named to the all-conference team.

Next Up
The Owls are next n action at the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at the Grove in College Grove, Tenn. The tournament opens Oct. 8 at The Grove Golf Course.
