KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Kennesaw State men's tennis team opened its fall schedule in action this weekend at both the Southern Intercollegiate Championship in Athens and the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg.

The doubles pairing of
Drew Lahey and
Bryan Triana highlighted the action by winning their doubles draw at the USC Upstate Invitational with four victories. Triana and Lahey also went 1-1 in their singles matches, while rookies
Tino Dahlem and
Austin Anderson also claimed their first career singles wins.
"We played some good, close matches this weekend overall, but failed to capitalized in key points," said director of tennis
Eduardo Rincon. "Obviously Bryan and Drew played well to win a doubles championships and I'm proud of them. We have a lot of opportunities left this fall. We will get back to the drawing board as soon as we can and will work diligently in some of the aspects we need to improve individually and as a team.
Lahey and Triana defeated Cull and Massie from UNC-Asheville (6-2) in the first round, then rolled past Arora and Neto from Upstate (6-2) and ousted Bhangolia and Pistorius from Furman (7-6) to reach the championship match. In the final, the Owls' tandem dispatched Daly and Colclough from UNCA (6-2) to claim the title.
Triana, Lahey, Dahlem and Anderson each finished singles action at the USC Upstate Invitational with 1-1 records.
At the Southern Intercollegiate Championship hosted by the University of Georgia,
Lucas de Torres Curth won his first-round singles match by topping FAU's Arthur Stefani, 6-2, 7-5. Louisville's Nicolas Rouanet downed de Torres Curth in the second round, 6-2, 6-2.
Playing in the main singles draw,
Fermin Calvo Barcelo dropped a marathon first-round match to Virginia Tech's Carol Donato. The junior won the opening set 6-2, dropped the second 6-2 and was out-lasted in 19-17 in the third-set tiebreaker.

The Owls are back in action in early October at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla.
