KENNESAW, GA. – A pair of opponents who were ranked in the final top 25 national rankings a year ago highlight a challenging 2017-18 schedule that was announced by Kennesaw State head women's basketball coach Agnus Berenato on Monday (July 10).
 
As year two of the Berenato Era begins, the Owls' 14-game non-conference schedule includes four potential contests against teams who advanced to postseason play a year ago. Overall, including ASUN Conference action, Kennesaw State will play 10 games versus opponents who played in either the NCAA Tournament or WNIT during the 2016-17 season.
 
"We're extremely excited about the schedule we have been able to put together for the 2017-18 season," Berenato said. "It has a mixture of Top 25 teams and programs that have a history of winning, and who will provide a challenge for us as we continue to work to build our program to the level of some of the teams we will face during the non-conference portion of our schedule.
 
"We are in a very competitive ASUN Conference and we want to play teams in the preseason who will prepare us for the level of competition we will face once we get into league," Berenato added. "We have added several newcomers to our roster and exposing them to a high level of competition will help in their development and the growth of the program."
 
After opening the regular season at Clemson on Nov. 10, the Owls will play back-to-back road contests at Ole Miss (Nov. 13) and Georgia Tech (Nov. 15), two teams that competed in last year's WNIT. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the finals before falling to Michigan in the championship game.
 
Following three straight road contests, the Owls will make their regular-season debut at the KSU Convocation Center on Nov. 18 when they host Furman.
 
After a visit to Presbyterian on Nov. 21, Kennesaw State will travel to Coral Gables, Fla., to compete in the University of Miami Thanksgiving Tournament. The Owls will open against Big 10 power Maryland on Nov. 24 before facing either Maine or the host Hurricanes on Nov. 26.
 
The Terrapins, who captured the Big Ten Conference regular-season and tournament titles last season, advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and concluded the year with a 32-3 record and No. 4 national ranking by the Associated Press. Miami reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing the year with a 24-9 mark and No. 16 ranking.
 
After playing five of their first six games on the road to begin the season, the Owls will return to the KSU Convocation Center for three straight home contests beginning with Georgia State on Nov. 30. Kennesaw State will host NAIA member Middle Georgia State on Dec. 2 before closing the homestand against East Carolina on Dec. 4.
 
Following a road game at Georgia Southern on Dec. 15, the Owls will travel to Puerto Rico to compete in the Puerto Rico Classic beginning Dec. 19. KSU opens against Western Michigan before facing Southern Illinois on Dec. 20.
 
Kennesaw State closes out its non-conference slate with a road contest at Savannah State on Jan. 3.
 
Kennesaw State begins its 14-game ASUN Conference schedule with a home contest against Lipscomb on Jan. 6 and closes out league play against the Bisons Feb. 4 in Nashville, Tenn.
 
The ASUN Conference Tournament begins March 2 with the semifinals and finals slated for March 7 and 11, respectively. All games will be played at campus sites of the highest seeds.
 
Kennesaw State will make its season debut with a home exhibition against Thomas University on Nov. 5.

SCHEDULE NOTES

• Kennesaw State will play 10 of its 14 non-conference games on the road and 17 of its 28 contests away from the KSU Convocation Center.
• The Owls' schedule includes seven opponents – Maryland (NCAA), Miami (NCAA), Florida Gulf Coast (NCAA), Ole Miss (WNIT), Georgia Tech (WNIT), Stetson (WNIT) and Jacksonville (WNIT) – who advanced to postseason play a year ago and 10 teams that posted winning records.
• KSU has two teams on its schedule – Maryland (No. 6) and Miami (No. 16) – who finished the 2016-17 season ranked in the Associated Press' Top 25.
• Two teams – Florida Gulf Coast (No. 10) and Stetson (No. 17) – concluded the 2016-17 season ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
• Kennesaw State will play six opponents – Ole Miss, Maryland, Middle Georgia State, East Carolina, Western Michigan and Southern Illinois – for the first time.
• The Owls' non-conference slate includes three opponents from the ACC (Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami), two from the Sun Belt (Georgia Southern, Georgia State), and one each from the SEC (Ole Miss), Big Ten (Maryland), Big South (Presbyterian), America East (Maine), American Conference (East Carolina), MAC (Western Michigan), Missouri Valley (Southern Illinois), Southern Conference (Furman), MEAC (Savannah State), and one NAIA opponent (Middle Georgia State).
• The Owls will play four in-state opponents – Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Middle Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
