KENNESAW, Ga. – Third-year head coach
Bryant Odom announced the 2017-18 Kennesaw State men's golf schedule on Tuesday (Aug. 1).
Coming off an ASUN Conference championship, seventh straight NCAA Regional appearance and trip to the NCAA Championships, the Owls will once again play a challenging schedule in 2017-18.
The fall season opens at the familiar Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga., Sept. 8-10, and marks one of seven events on the upcoming schedule that Kennesaw State participated in during the 2016-17 campaign.
"We will have the opportunity to compete against several teams ranked in the top 50 nationally without having to travel far from home," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We are looking forward to returning to The Farm, The Grove, Steelwood and once again hosting The Pinetree Intercollegiate."
The Owls will also return to the Franklin Mortgage Intercollegiate (Middle Tennessee) Oct. 8-10, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational (South Alabama) Oct. 28-29, Tiger Invitational (Auburn) March 4-6, and The Southern Intercollegiate (Georgia) March 12.
KSU will host the Pinetree Intercollegiate for the sixth straight year at nearby Pinetree Country Club October 23 and 24, and co-host with Mercer the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters at Lake Oconee March 18-20.
"We proudly call Pinetree Country Club our home course, and its convenient location and challenging layout prepare us well for the many venues we will play throughout the course of the season," Odom said.
Following the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate, Kennesaw State will travel to Shoal Creek, Ala., for the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational (UAB) at Shoal Creek Golf Course. The Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama February 12 and 13 at the Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove will be a new event for the Owls. They will also return to the 3M Augusta Championship hosted by Augusta University at Forest Hills Country Club in Augusta March 31 and April 1.
Kennesaw State will be defending a pair of regular-season tournament titles as the Owls claimed the 2016 Pinetree Intercollegiate and Steelwood Intercollegiate Invitational, plus the ASUN Conference Championships scheduled April 15-17 at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.
The NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 with North Carolina State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Pacific, Texas A&M and UCF serving as hosts. Oklahoma State will be the host institution for the NCAA Championships slated for May 25-30 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
"We return a very experienced team and I anticipate us having a successful fall campaign," Odom said.
Kennesaw State returns three individuals who competed at last year's NCAA Championships, plus
Wyatt Larkin, who returns to action after suffering an injury early last fall and missing most of his junior season. The Owls concluded the 2016-17 season ranked No. 37 nationally by
Golfweek and No. 47 by Golfstat.
