Jordan Gray sits in sixth place after day one of the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on Friday.
"Jordan had a really solid day today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. "It was cold with fairly heavy rain much of the day today, and she had to run into headwinds, so the marks weren't outstanding, but this is about head to head competition beating people. She was ranked 14th coming in and is sitting sixth after four events which show how well she's performing. Hopefully, she has as good of a day tomorrow, and we'll be sitting good!"
Gray finished with 3363 points on day one. She sits just 380 points behind Georgia senior Kendell Williams who leads with 3743 points.
She opened the meet with a time of 14.29 seconds in the 100m hurdles which was good for second in her heat and 17
th overall.
The Ball Ground, Georgia native had her best performances of the day in the high jump and shot put. In the high jump, she would grab a tie for fourth place finish with a clearance of 1.72m (5'7.75). That jump tied her for career-best high jump in a heptathlon. In the shot put, she landed a throw of 12.48m (40'11.5) to finish fourth.
In the final event of the day, she ran a time of 25.37 seconds in the 200m good for second in her heat and 11
th overall.
Gray will conclude in the heptathlon at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on Saturday, June 10 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
