PESARO, Italy – Kennesaw State rising sophomore Carlotta Gianolla hopes her experience practicing with the Under 20 Italian National Team a year ago and one season playing at the NCAA Division I level here in the United States pays dividends as she attempts to represent her native country this summer.

Gianolla, the unanimous 2017 ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year, will be one of 16 hopefuls looking to make the 2017 Under 20 Italian National Team that will compete July 8-16 in the European Championship in Matosinhos, Portugal. Tryouts will be held June 12 through July 3.

"I feel really prepared and ready to compete for a spot to represent my country on the national team. This last year at Kennesaw State really helped me in my development as I work towards becoming the player I need to be," Gianolla said. "In the United States, basketball is played in a much different way than in Italy and Europe. There is more intensity, athleticism, energy and physicality, and to be able to play on the National Team you need to bring these four factors every single day in practice and games."

The Marcon, Italy native made an immediate impact for Kennesaw State during her first collegiate season. Gianolla helped the Owls advance to the ASUN Conference Women's Basketball Championship semifinals after a quarter-final win in KSU's first home tournament game at the NCAA Division I level.

Gianolla was a key contributor to the Owls' success as she averaged 11.7 points and a team-leading 6.3 rebounds a contest, while recording 17 double-digit scoring games. She earned ASUN Conference Newcomer of the Week three times and unanimous selection to the conference's all-freshman team.

One of the highlights for Gianolla during her rookie campaign was scoring a Kennesaw State freshman single-game record 29 points versus Jacksonville on February 20.

"I learned to be more consistent with my game and I am excited to go back to play in Italy with these new facets that I have added to my style of play. I want to be able to show that this year has been a turning point for me as a player," Gianolla said. "I really worked with my coaches and teammates in improving my attitude during practices and games so I can become an encouraging and enthusiastic teammate that will result in team and personal success."

NOTES: Kennesaw State second-year head coach Agnus Berenato welcomes eight newcomers to the team for the 2017-18 season. The Owls will have their first team get-together with newcomers on Wednesday (June 7) and summer athletic activity on June. 12.
