TRK: Owls Wrap Up Action at NCAA Championships

Lexington, KY. – Five members of the Kennesaw State track and field team battled some weather delays and wrapped up action on the final day of the NCAA Championships at the UK Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky on Saturday.
 
Dayo Akindele jumped 14.58m (47'10) in the triple jump quarterfinals which was good for 40th place.
 
Akindele returned later in the evening and finished the quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.08 which was good for 22nd place. The sophomore ends his outdoor season posting many lifetime best performances, earning four medals at the ASUN Championships and being named Most Outstanding Performer of the ASUN Outdoor Championships.
 
After an hour weather relay, the women's 4x100m relay team of Hannah Wood, Laura-Maria Oja, Keaghan Peppers and Jirah Simpkins ran a time of 44.92 seconds and finished 18th. This race marked the final race of Wood and Oja's KSU careers. They both had a huge impact on the women's track program over their four years. Both played major parts and helping the Owls women's teams win both the ASUN Indoor and Outdoor Championships this season for the first time in program history. 
 
The Owls have two women who punched their tickets to the NCAA Track and Field Championships finals in Eugene, Oregon. Jocselyn Powell will compete in the semifinals of the 400m hurdles on June 8. Powell will be joined in Oregon by teammate Jordan Gray will compete in the finals of the heptathlon on June 9-10.
