Lexington, Ky. – Junior
Jocselyn Powell led a group of nine athletes of the Kennesaw State track and field teams who competed on day two of the NCAA Track and Field Championships at the UK Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky on Friday.
Powell broke the school record running a time of 58.10 seconds in the quarterfinals of the 400m hurdles good for 11th place. That time qualifies her for the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon on June 8th. She is the first KSU woman to ever to advance to semifinals of the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in program history.
"It was great seeing the black and gold all over the track and field events today," Director of Track and Field
Andy Eggerth said. "Jocselyn was impressive moving from the quarterfinals to the semifinals in Eugene, and in school record fashion! Dayo breaks his PR and the 14-second barrier in the 110m hurdles. And all three vaulters over 5m. I'm just disappointed in myself because I cost (Joshua) Mulder a trip to the NCAA finals in the pole vault. I should have moved him to his stiffed pole on his first attempt at 5.15m, but I didn't do it until his second attempt, and it was too late."
Dayo Akindele ran a career-best time of 13.97 seconds in the 110m hurdles to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday evening. Akindele's time was 19th fastest in the first round.
Senior
Joshua Mulder and sophomore
Brenton Rosa finished tied for 24th, while senior
Hunter Arnold grabbed a tie for 29th as all three cleared 5.00m (16'4.75) in the pole vault. Rosa concludes his best season in an Owl uniform which included breaking the ASUN Championship pole vault record, winning a gold medal in the pole vault at the ASUN Outdoor Championships, and becoming the second vaulter in program history to clear 5.00m.
Senior
Terrell Singleton posted a time of 14.30 seconds in the 100m hurdles finishing 36th.
It marked the end of a KSU career for Arnold, Mulder and Singleton. They all helped take the KSU men's track program to heights as they all have played big roles in helping the Owls win eight consecutive ASUN Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships over their four-year careers.

Laura-Maria Oja came up short of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles. Oja finished 33rd with a time of 13.65 seconds and Powell finished 45th in a time of 14.12 seconds.
Senior
Hannah Wood ran a time of 11.91 seconds to finish 24th in the quarterfinals of the 100m. Wood will have one more chance to qualify for Eugene when she runs on the Owls 4x100m relay team on Saturday evening in the quarterfinals.
Freshman
Julija Tarvide tied for 37th in the high jump after clearing 1.69m (5'6.5). Her strong freshman season comes to an end. She won the gold medal at both the ASUN Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships this season. She was also named Most Outstanding Freshman Performer of both ASUN Track and Field Championships.
Action at the NCAA Championships wraps up on Saturday, May 27 at the UK Track and Field Complex.
Dayo Akindele will compete for KSU in quarterfinals of the triple jump at 1:00 p.m. and the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles at 7 p.m. The Owls women's 4x100 relay team of

Jirah Simpkins will look to qualify for Eugene in the quarterfinals beginning at 6 p.m.
