OPENING HOLE
Coming off a tie for second at the NCAA College Grove Regional last week, No. 36 Kennesaw State will open play at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships this week in Sugar Grove, Ill.
 
The national championships begin Friday (May 26) at Rich Harvest Farms with a 54-hole stroke-play format over three days before the field is cut to the top 15 for 18 holes of stroke play on Monday (May 29). The top eight teams following 72 holes will advance to match play where the national champion will be determined on Wednesday (May 31).
 
The Owls, who are seeded No. 25 in the 30-team event, are grouped with Purdue and Jacksonville and will tee from the first tee beginning at 9:02 a.m. (ET).  The Three teams will start their second round on Saturday (May 27) on the 10th tee beginning at 2:22 p.m. (ET).
 
The field also includes six individuals from non-competing teams and following 54 holes of stroke, the top nine individuals on non-advancing teams will advance to a fourth round of stroke play that will determine in the individual national champion.
 
Kennesaw State is appearing in its third NCAA Championships after making appearances in 2011 and 2014, finishing 26th both times.
 
The Owls have made seven NCAA Regional appearances since their first in 2011, and last week's tie for second matched their highest showing.
 
Kennesaw State has had a solid 2016-17 campaign, posting 12 top 10 finishes and 10 top five showings, including three tournament wins. KSU captured the Pinetree Intercollegiate, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational and ASUN Conference Championships.

THE COURSE
Rich Harvest Farms is a par-72, 7,300-yard layout. The course has earned many distinct honors including consistently being named one of Rolex's "World's Top 1,000 Golf Courses" and Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses." Golf Digest also honored Rich Harvest Farms in 1999, by naming it the fifth Best New Private Course in the United States. It has a rich history of hosting many amateur, collegiate and professional events, including the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships, 2015 Western Amateur, 2015 Palmer Cup and 2009 Solheim Cup to name a few.
 
THE FIELD
The 30-team field for the NCAA Championships College Grove Regional includes (in order of seeding): USC, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Baylor, LSU, Illinois, Oregon, Kent State, Texas, Clemson, UNLV, Oklahoma, Virginia, UCF, Duke, Auburn, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Arizona State, Florida State, North Carolina, Alabama, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State, Purdue, Jacksonville, New Mexico, Iowa State and Penn State.

"To get to the national championships is big deal and we haven't taken that lightly. We feel like we can play with anyone. To make it this far is a testament to how hard these guys have worked this year and our potential going forward. It's going to be important in the practice round to take it all in, formulate our game plan, and find out the most successful path to playing the golf course. It's the national championships so it's going to be set up very difficult, and will be tough and challenging, but I think our guys proved last week that they can step and be ready for that challenge."
 
NCAA COLLEGE GROVE REGIONAL RECAP
The No. 39 Kennesaw State men's golf team rode the momentum of a quick start and withstood windy conditions for most of its final round to shoot a 2-over par 290 to tie for second place at the NCAA College Grove Regional. The Owls totaled a 1-over par 54-hole total of 865 to finish two shots behind No. 47 UCF (863, -1) in the 13-team field. KSU tied No. 2 Vanderbilt and No. 14 Clemson for second. Senior Christopher Guglielmo turned in a 6-under par 210 total to place two shots behind Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong, who finished first with an 8-under par 208 score. Guglielmo's second-place showing marked the best finish by a KSU player since Jimmy Beck tied for fourth at the 2015 Chapel Hill Regional.
 
ASUN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
Kennesaw State captured the program's third ASUN Conference title after posting a one-shot victory over Lipscomb on April 18. The Owls recorded a 1-under par 863 total at the par-72, 7,032-yard The Legends at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. Sophomores Jake Fendt and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres shot a 2-under par 214 total to lead KSU and tie for second, four shots behind Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb.

LINEUP NOTES
The Owls enter the NCAA Championships with all five players in the lineup scoring 73.00 or better. Sophomore Jake Fendt tops the team with a 72.15 stroke average. He has posted six top 20 finishes, including four top 10 showings, and captured individual medalist honors at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
 
Senior Christopher Guglielmo (72.22) leads the team with seven top 20 finishes and six top-10 showings. Sophomore Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (72.78) has six top 20 and five top-10 finishes, while freshman Connor Coffee has a 72.91 scoring average and a victory at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, and senior Teremoana Beaucousin (73.00) has six top 20 and three top 10 finishes.

THE 2016-17 ROSTER
Head coach Bryant Odom's 2016-17 roster includes four the five players who helped the Owls claim the 2016 ASUN Conference championship and advance to the NCAA Franklin Regional. The KSU roster includes two seniors (Teremoana Beaucousin, Christopher Guglielmo), three juniors (Wyatt Larkin, Buster Bruton, Paul Doig), two sophomores (Jake Fendt, Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres) and a talented freshman Connor Coffee.
 
GUGLIELMO QUALIFIES FOR U.S. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Senior Christopher Guglielmo qualified the 2016 U.S. Amateur Championship that was held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich., in August. It marked the second straight year that Guglielmo qualified for world's most prestigious amateur championship.
 
PARS, BIRDIES AND EAGLES
• Seniors Christopher Guglielmo and Teremoana Beaucousin are the only two members of this year's team who participated in the 2014 NCAA Championships at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kan. Competing as freshmen, Guglielmo (76-78-75) tied for 145th, while Beaucousin (69-73-67) tied for 19th to lead the Owls.
 
• Beaucousin and Guglielmo tie Jimmy Beck (2012-2015) as the only KSU players in compete in an NCAA regional four times.
 
• Guglielmo has been an example of consistency during the 2016-17 campaign, leading the Owls in rounds at par or better (21), rounds in the 60s (10), top 20 finishes (7), top five showings (5) and tied with Jake Fendt with 14 under par rounds.
 
• Guglielmo had a consistent tournament at the NCAA College Grove Tournament, carding rounds of 72-70-68 for 6-under par 210 total, finishing two shots out of first. The Cumming, Ga. native posted six birdies during his final round, including five on his front nine as he shot a 4-under 32, and concluded play with even-par backside that included one birdie and one bogey.
• Guglielmo produced the three lowest rounds of the season by a Kennesaw State player, carding a 7-under par 65 at the Auburn Tiger Invitational and Old Waverly Collegiate. He also shot a 6-under 65 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on the par-71 Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
 
• Senior Teremoana Beaucousin ranks second on Kennesaw State rounds played list with 129. Jimmy Beck (2011-15) is all-time leader with 134 rounds played.
 
• All five individuals who will be competing for the Owls at the NCAA Championships have scoring averages (based on 30 rounds) that rank among the Top 11 in Kennesaw State history. Senior Teremoana Beaucousin leads the group, ranking fourth, with a 72.89 scoring average. Sophomore Jake Fendt (72.91) and freshman Connor Coffee (72.91) tie for fifth, while senior Chris Guglielmo (73.40) and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (73.46) are ninth and 11th, respectively.
 
• Sophomore Jake Fendt's season scoring average of 72.15 ranks sixth on KSU's single-season scoring average list.
 
• Kennesaw State is one of record-breaking three ASUN Conference schools competing at this year's NCAA Championships as Lipscomb and Jacksonville join them. Lipscomb finished fifth at the College Grove Regional, while Jacksonville advanced out of the Baton Rouge Regional after tying for fifth and winning a playoff against Northwestern.
 
2011 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW
The 2010-11 season was a break-through year for the Kennesaw State men's golf program as it earned its first-ever NCAA postseason berth under second-year head coach Jay Moseley. The Owls earned a bid after winning the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships for the first time. KSU traveled to Ocala, Fla. for the Southeastern Regional and finished third with an 11-under par total of 853. Junior All-American Jeff Karlsson who tied for sixth with a seven-under par 209, led Kennesaw State. At the NCAA Championships, Karlsson again led the Owls as he tied for 20th with a 4-over score of 220 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla. Kennesaw State finished 26th in the 30-team event with a 57-over par total of 921.
 
2014 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW
Behind the solid play of freshman Teremoana Beaucousin, Kennesaw State carded a final-round 4-over par 284 to finish 26th at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The final round put Kennesaw State at 32-over par 872. Beaucousin carded a bogey-free 3-under par 67 final round to lead the Owls and finish at 1-under par 209 to tie for 19th. He missed earning All-American status by one shot as the top 15 in the individual standings automatically are All-Americans. The freshman's finish was the highest showing by a Kennesaw State player at the NCAA Championships, bettering the tie for 20th by Jeff Karlsson's at the 2011 NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
 
KENNESAW STATE MEN'S GOLF
The Kennesaw State men's golf program has established itself at the national level in recent years as it has made seven consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and advanced to the NCAA Championships three times (2011, 2014, 2017). The Owls finished the 2015-16 season ranked No. 45 by Golfstat and No. 49 by Golfweek.  
 
HEAD COACH BRYANT ODOM
Head coach Bryant Odom is in his second season at Kennesaw State and has guided the Owls to back-to-back ASUN Conference championship. KSU's 2016 performance helped Odom earn ASUN Conference Coach of the Year honors. Prior to Kennesaw State, Odom spent two seasons as head coach at Western Carolina. He earned All-American honors at Georgia and helped the Bulldogs to a national championship in 1999.
