4/5/2017 1:29:00 PM

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kennesaw State tennis teams are on the road Thursday night for a crucial ASUN Conference match-up at Florida Gulf Coast. Both the men and women's match are underway at 6 p.m.

The men (10-7, 2-2) enter Thursday's match in a battle with the Eagles (6-10, 2-2) for a top-three seed in the ASUN Men's Tennis Championship, scheduled for April 21-23 in Fort Myers. Both teams bring 2-2 ASUN records into the meeting and are tied for the third in the conference race.

The Owls have defeated USC Upstate and NJIT in conference play, with setbacks to UNF and Stetson. FGCU's ledger includes ASUN wins over Stetson and Upstate, and losses to NJIT and UNF.

Senior Simon Pritchard, who is 9-6 at No. 1 singles this spring – the ASUN's second-most win at No. 1 spot behind Stetson's Lois Blanco (11-3), leads the Owls. In doubles, Pritchard has teamed with sophomore Lucas de Torres Curth for one of the ASUN's best doubles tandems.

Pritchard and de Torres Curth own a 9-1 doubles record, including a win over UNF's No. 78-ranked team of Jack Findel-Hawkins and Jefta Kecic, who were previously undefeated.

The women enter the match in a fifth-place tie with Lipscomb at 1-3 in the conference standings, while the Eagles sit in first place at 3-0. The top six teams qualify for the ASUN Women's Tennis Championship, April 21-23 in Fort Myers.

Junior Alexandra Mercado's 7-5 record at No. 1 singles leads the team, while sophomore Kennedy Craig has been solid at No. 4 with a 5-5 record. Mercado has teamed with Elle Baker at No. 2 doubles for a spotless 4-0 mark.

Following Thursday's match, the Owls are off until April 12 when the teams welcome Mercer for a doubleheader at the Betty Siegel Courts.
