WG: Sverdloff Grabs Lead After Second Round of Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. –  Dulcie Sverdloff  birdied three of her first four holes Monday afternoon, and her second-round 69 (-3) has the Kennesaw State senior in the individual lead at the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational at El-Tigre Golf Club.
 
After an opening round 1-over par 73 on Sunday, Sverdloff carded five birdies and 11 pars on Monday, helping her to a two-day total of 2-under par 142. She is two shots ahead of No.17 Martina Edberg of Cal State Fullerton, No.61 Brooke Ferrell of Wisconsin and Karen Miyamoto of Washington who all are at even-par 144 through two rounds. 
 
KSU fired an 8-over par 296 in the second round to move into fifth place with a two-round total of 23-over par 599. The Owls are just 13 shots behind No.49 Wisconsin who grabbed the overall lead with a two-round total of 10-over par 586.
 
 "Today was a solid day on the course for the team," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "The wind was prevalent again, but we handled it much better today. Dulcie's round of 69 was clutch, and I'm so proud of her. We moved up two spots to fifth place today. With one more round to go and the good energy and momentum we are feeling, I am confident we can make another move upward tomorrow."
 
Sophomore Medy Thavong closed with seven pars on her final nine holes to record a 4-over par 76. Thavong sits tied for 23rd place with a two-round total of 6-over par 150.
 
Sophomore Charlotte Charrayre rolled in 15 pars to post a 5-over par 77 in the second round. She is tied for 38th at 9-over par 153 after two rounds.
 
Henriette Nielsen rebounded from an opening round 80, with two birdies and 12 pars to shoot 74 and is tied for 44th at 10-over par 154.
 
After a tough first nine holes, Madison Caldwell was able to rebound with six pars and a birdie on the back nine for a 5-over par 77. She is tied for 77th at 19-over par 163. 
 
The Owls are off in Tuesday's final round with Kansas and Coastal Carolina at 9:15 a.m.
