WEST POINT, Miss. – The No. 41-ranked Kennesaw State men's golf team had to endure a four-hour delay before opening play at the Old Waverly Collegiate on Monday.
 
When the Owls finally teed it up at the par-72, 7,088-yard Old Waverly Golf Club, the wait proved worthwhile as Kennesaw State carded a 5-under par 283 to grab a share of the lead with South Florida. The two teams hold a one shot lead over No. 34 Lipscomb (284) in an event that has been cut from 54 to 36 holes. 
 
Seniors Christopher Guglielmo and Teremoana Beaucousin led Kennesaw State as both players combined to shoot eight-under par. Guglielmo matched his career-best round with a 7-under par 65 to tie for the first-round lead with Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong.
 
After shooting a three-under par 69, Beaucousin is among a group of five players tied for third place.
 
"Today was a long day with delays this morning and difficult playing conditions, but I am extremely pleased with the team's effort," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Chris continues his world-class play and Teremoana stepped up with a solid round."
 
Guglielmo, who shot a 5-under par 31 on his front nine, had eight birdies, with his lone blemish being a bogey on the par-4 11th hole. Beaucousin recorded five birdies and had two bogeys during his opening round.
 
Jake Fendt (74, +2) is tied for 33rd, while Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres and Connor Coffee are tied for 47th after posting scores of 3-over par 75.
 
"Jake, Connor and Pablo are all very close with their games, but need to find a way to keep their momentum throughout the round," Odom said. "I am confident they will come through tomorrow (Tuesday) and help us down the stretch."
 
The final round gets underway at 10 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday, with Kennesaw State grouped with Lipscomb, Mississippi State and Chattanooga, and scheduled to tee off at 11 a.m. (ET). All the action can be followed live at www.golfstatresults.com.
