TRK: Owls Add Two More NCAA Championship Qualifiers While Winning WCU Invitational

Cullowhee, N.C. – The Kennesaw State track and field teams closed out the regular season winning ten events, setting two school records and many strong performances on Friday at the WCU Invitational. The men's team won the meet scoring 202 points. The women's team won the meet scoring 184.50 points.
 
Joshua Mulder and Hunter Arnold join Dayo Akindele, Jocselyn Powell and Erica Sergeant with performances strong enough that will advance them to the NCAA Championship.  With several athletes on the bubble the Owls will be looking forward to big performances in two weeks at the ASUN Championships.  
 
"I'm really proud of our team as a whole", Director of Track and Field Andy Eggerth said.  "They've been working hard since the first day of classes last fall and now that we're beginning to unload training things are really starting to come together.  It's encouraging and just fun to see a couple school records and several personal records from nearly every event group on the team."
 
Men's Top Performances
  • Senior All-American, Joshua Mulder stamped his ticket to the NCAA Championship shattering the school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.27m (17'3.5) to win the event.
  • Hunter Arnold also punched his ticket to NCAA's with a career-best vault of 5.17m (16'11.5") to finish second in the pole vault.
  • Fabeon Tucker was the top collegiate in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 59.77m (196'1) good for fifth-best in program history.
  • Blassingame landed a season-best jump of 7.30m (23'11.5) to earn a victory in the triple jump.
  • Dayo Akindele ran a time of 14.13 seconds in the 110m hurdles to win the event.
  • Tucker landed a toss of 47.51m (155'10) to collect a win in the discus which was good for seventh farthest in program history.
  • Bolden ran a season-best time of 21.51 to finish as the top collegiate in the 200m.
  •  Darren Onyirimba had a big personal-best toss of 15.37m (50' 5.25") in the shot put to finish second. That was good for the sixth-best throw in program history.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Sean BlassingameCameron BoldenChandler Nichols and Nick Grant ran a time of 41.33 seconds to win the event.
Women's Top Performances
  • Erica Sergeant strengthened her NCAA qualifying mark setting the school record again in the pole vault after clearing 4.04m (13'3) to win the event.
  • Julija Tarvide won the high jump after a season-best clearance of 1.73m (5'8). That jump ties her with teammates Jordan Gray and Shakedra Robinson for second-best in program history.
  • Morgan Campbell landed a jump of 12.15m (39'10.55) to collect a win in the triple jump. That was the third-best jump in program history.
  • Kidan Kidane won the 1500m race in a time of 4:40.04 which was eighth-fastest in program history.
  • Caitlyn Farrell secured a win in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 11:40.26 which was sixth-fastest in program history.
 The Owls will begin the postseason at the ASUN Outdoor Championships on May 12-13 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.
