Official NFCA Release

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State outfielder Olivia Tamewitz was named as one of 25 finalists for the Schutt Sports / NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Award, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday (April 20).
 
The group includes nine infielders, six outfielders, four pitchers, four utility players and two catchers. The list will be paired from 25 to 10 on May 11, to three on May 24, and the National Freshman of the Year announcement is May 30.

"We're really excited for Olivia to be named one of the top 25 freshmen in the country this year," head coach Pete D'Amour said. "Liv has been a joy to coach thus far. She's eager to learn, plays really hard, and is a great teammate. She's going to continue to do big things here at KSU."

Tamewitz, a resident of Ringgold, Ga., has played an integral role in helping Kennesaw State to a 31-14 record and a second-place standing in the ASUN Conference. As the Owls' right fielder, she has started 44 games and is batting .377 with 31 runs scored, 55 hits (nine doubles, seven triples and two home runs) and 26 RBIs, while recording a .575 slugging percentage, .399 on-base percentage and 17 stolen bases in 19 attempts.
 
Entering the week, Tamewitz ranked third in the nation in triples, and amongst the ASUN Conference's leaders in batting average, slugging percentage, hits and total bases. She has totaled 17 multiple-hit and six multiple-RBI games.
 
Tamewitz becomes the first player in the Kennesaw State Division I era to be named a top 25 finalist for NFCA National Freshman of the Year.
 
The Owls continue their schedule this weekend when they host Florida Gulf Coast in a three-game series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. The series concludes with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday. Saturday marks a busy day as the program will recognize its seniors prior to game one, and will add two individuals into the KSU Circle of Honor between games.
