KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Owls claimed the doubles point and Kennedy Craig won her singles match, but Stetson overcame the early deficit to beat Kennesaw State, 5-2, in ASUN women's tennis action Saturday at the Betty Siegel Courts.
 
Kennesaw State (5-11, 1-3) led 1-0 after the doubles point, and extended the lead to 2-0 when Craig won at No. 4 singles, but the Hatters (5-12, 2-2) strung together four consecutive singles victories on Courts 3, 1, 5, and 6 to clinch the conference win.

"That was what a college tennis match should feel like," said Assistant Head Coach Miranda Foley. "We continued our solid play in doubles, which is encouraging. We struggled to capitalize on opportunities we had in singles, but credit to Stetson for taking advantage. Kennedy had a good day and that's good to see from her."
 
Jessica Cantrell and Jada Tijani teamed for a 6-0 doubles victory at No. 3 to open Saturday's proceedings. Stetson followed by taking the No. 1 doubles match, but the Owls claimed the point when Alexandra Mercado and Elle Baker finished off a 6-4 win at No. 2. Baker and Mercado improved to 4-1 since teaming up in doubles.
 
Kennesaw State kept the pressure on as Craig rolled over Sofia Ferding in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, on Court 4 to give the hosts an early 2-0 advantage.
 
The Owls are back in action Thursday with a key ASUN match at Florida Gulf Coast. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Fort Myers.
