KENNESAW, Ga. – In a back-and-fourth ASUN men's tennis match at the Betty Siegel Courts Saturday, visiting Stetson hung on to beat Kennesaw State, 4-3.

The Owls won the doubles point in convincing fashion, and got hard-fought, three-set singles wins from Jake Bouchillon and Drew Wendel, but slipped to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Hatters (12-4, 2-1) won the first three singles matches to seize control and held off the Owls late charge.

Saturday was a rematch of last year's ASUN Tournament quarterfinal, won by the Owls 4-3. The last three matches in the series have been narrow 4-3 decisions.

"It seems like every match with Stetson comes down to the wire," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "This was another great college match, but this will be a tough one to stomach. You have to credit Stetson, but we let some really good momentum slip away after doubles. I'm proud of the way Drew fought back to keep up alive, and Jake was really tough."

With the Hatters one point from clinching the match, Wendel rallied from a set down at No. 6 to beat Collin MacNamara, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, to keep his team alive. But Stetson's Loic Blanco did some rallying of his own, coming from a set down against Simon Pritchard at No. 1 to survive, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0, and lock up the win for his team.

Bouchillon went the distance to claim his match at No. 5 for Kennesaw State. The senior came from a set down to outlast Pierre Fossier, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Kennesaw State was in command after breezing through the doubles matches and leading 1-0. Sam Slade and Fermin Calvo Barcelo won 6-0 at No. 6. Pritchard and Lucas de Torres Curth clinched the point with a 6-1 victory at No. 1.

The Owls return to action Thursday with a key ASUN match at Florida Gulf Coast. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in Fort Myers.
